African black soap

Black soap is the base ingredient in our shampoo. Black Soap is traditionally made by women in west Africa from recipes pass down from generation to generation. Different tribes and communities have their own unique blend of oils and cooking techniques, which can be seen in the different colour variations of black soap. It is made from the ash of plantain, cocoa pods, palm tree leaves, and shea tree bark. The leaves and bark are sun-dried and then roasted at a constant temperature. Then water, honey and various oils including palm oil, coconut oil, palm kernel; shea butter and cocoa pod powder are added to the mixture and the soap left to cure. The plantain skins give the soap Vitamin A & E and iron. Black soap is sulphate free and oil rich so does not strip out moisture from the hair.
