shea butter

Raw unrefined shea butter is the main ingredient in most of our products, shea butter is extracted from the nut of the Shea-Karite tree. The Karite tree only grows in the tropics of East and West Africa. The butter is extracted by female farmers using ancient African methods, the process does not involve any chemicals. Shea butter has been utilised for centuries by African women, not only for hair but for the skin as well.

Shea butter is a composed mainly of stearic acid and oleic acid, it is rich vitamins and in minerals. Shea butter has a distinct nutty odour which can be overpowering at first, but once you get over it, you will discover a natural hair product with unmatched moisture retention and nurturing properties. Shea butter coats the hair shaft to protects it from damage caused by chemical hair treatments and heat. It is rich in Vitamin A, E and F with the ability to repair dry, brittle and dull hair as well as split ends. Shea butter softens, conditions, adds shine and hydrates without leaving any residue, unlike petroleum based hair products that leave hair greasy and heavy. Shea butter does not add moisture (water) but it hydrates the hair by preventing moisture loss. Hair types 4a, b and c, common to people of African ancestry are prone to moisture loss because of its high porosity.
